Atomic Fireballs Candy is cinnamon flavored round, hard candies that were invented in 1954 by Nello Ferrara. They are basically kind of jawbreaker. Candies outer layer are dark red color and the inner layers are while. When the Ferrara Pan Company was introduced, it produced around 200 cases each day and then very soon the demand increased and they started producing 50,000 cases each day. The company started to sell about 15 million fireballs every week. The process of creating fireballs is known as hot panning, where the sugar syrup layers and flavors are deposited on a single core sugar grain. The pans are very hot and they tumble producing candies through the whole long process.
Atomic Candy are available in two sizes; a small pea sized ones that comes in boxes which look like format to the Lemonhead and the most popular full sized jawbreaker which are wrapped individually. It is easier to find these Atomic Fireballs, you can find them for a dime or nickel at the convenience stores checkout counters as well as at the liquor stores. The company Ferrara Pan still manufactures Red Hots which are imperials of cinnamon and even though they are nice but are not the same kind. You can find them online.
